New Cannabis Labels Required in WA State

Washington Cannabis Labels

As of February 14, 2017 the State of Washington is requiring that all marijuana-infused beverages and foods display cannabis labels containing a special icon, stating that they are “Not For Kids” and also contain a poison control phone number.

The state’s Liquor and Cannabis Board determined that the new cannabis labels were needed to make sure that marijuana-infused food and beverage products were easily distinguishable from typical sweets.

Brian Smith, spokesperson for the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board said, “A lot of them [marijuana-infused edibles] look like a regular package. We want it to be easily identified as a product containing marijuana,”

This is a reason why organizations in the marijuana-infused edibles industry in Washington state, and other locations where such products are legal, should consider printing their labels in-house. This gives them the flexibility to redesign their labels to stay compliant and print only as many labels as they need, when they need them.

Afinia Label has a number of in-house label printing options, such as the L301 Color Label Printer and L801 Color Label Printer.
